My Little Phony started out as Jun simply wanting to learn how to draw G4 MLP, asking for a bunch of custom requests to fiddle around with. Though My Little Phony now concentrates on pre-conceived releases, customs remain a fun part of the Phonyland experience. Nevertheless, there is a limit to the amount of non-normative traits we can stuff onto a squishy little Phony body, and, sometimes, the expectations of a dream quest may have to be adjusted. Phonyland has thus come up with a Quest System that will elimate all the pesky doubts that can bug a project like this.

1. First off, create a thread for all your quests! Please begin the title of the thread with your name for easy identification - e.g. [Jun D] Sum Phonies! 8D

You can make as many quests as you'd like in your own Quest thread, but please note that there is never any guarantee that a Quest will ever be made into a real Phony, and quest names cannot be reserved! We usually have a yearly Custom Contest, and the occasional Semi(or Quasi)custom mini-event, but Phonyland's focus is really more on premades otherwise. Beyond these opportunies, you'll have to look to the occasional RLC periods (usually accompanying the Custom Contest), or RL offers.

2. Secondly, here is the handy official Customs form for you to fill in for each Phony quested for...

+ Ref pics where possible: [OCs, etc. + ref pics for anything that helps in the fields above (such as hair). If you would like to try colours out, there are plenty of MLP colouring book images, or Pony-makers, but please do not edit others' personal work!

...Feel free to add as much information as you'd like beyond these fields - but these fields must be filled in to be considered a complete Quest.

3. Thirdly, once you are reasonably satisfied with your Quest details, just label your Quest thread title with [QC NEEDED!]. Fireflight will (eventually) come round and either stamp your Quest with the official seal of approval, or tell you what you should adjust to gain that seal. Once your Quest is stamped, it becomes a Phony Potentiate that is eligible for any of the Customs events that we may be holding! Changes can be made to your Quest at any time, of course, you just need to get it re-vetted before using it.

Don't worry about this step until a Custom event is looming on the horizon (or you're thinking of getting through RL$), Fireflight's a busy Phony and will probably only come around then...

4. When Fireflight comes around to your [QC NEEDED!] thread, he will change that designation to [QC DONE!] There are three scenarios that may have resulted in your thread:


This stamp means that your Quest is a normative Phony Potentiate that may be obtained through any Custom method that allows for Normative customs, whether RL$, auctions, RP contests, or otherwise. Fireflight may still leave some suggestions, or simply comments - we do suggest taking his suggestions onboard, but otherwise/afterwards you can just delete his lines, leave them there, or move them around as you see fit to keep the thread neat.


This stamp means that your Quest has non-normative features, and so is a non-normative Phony Potentiate that may be obtained through any Custom method that is specifically stated to allow for special traits, such as RL$ and any events that allow for non-Normative customs. Fireflight will specify what it is about your Phony that makes it non-normative along with the stamp, and Fireflight may still leave some suggestions, or simply comments - we do suggest taking his suggestions onboard, but otherwise/afterwards you can just delete his lines, leave them there, or move them around as you see fit to keep the thread neat, but please leave the listing of non-normative traits for our reference.

Sometimes a Quest is made that we just can't turn into a real Phony. ;A; Fireflight will explain why this Quest is untenable and what can be done. Then the person will just have to try again, no harm done!

You can change your Quest from a normative to a non-normative Phony at any point of time (unless it is currently entered in an ongoing event), you just have to get it re-vetted by Fireflight again! If the difference between normative and non-normative is very little for your Quest (i.e. a couple of inches between regular and Brush-'N-Grow length hair), it might be worth a thought, but otherwise, please don't stress out about whether your Phony Quest is normative or not! There are few custom events where only normative Phonies are accepted, so it's best to go for what you really want - - unless we come crawling to you begging you to simplify stuff or something, heh.

5. If you have new Quests you need approved, or want to change or update your Quest, or if your Quest was not approved and you've made the appropriate changes, just reflag the thread title with [QC NEEDED!] and Fireflight will drop by again (eventually)!

. Quest Basics .
❥ Anyone may set up a Quest thread to plan out Custom Phonies - you may also quest a custom as a gift for a friend, though ideally your friend should actually be interested in one...
❥ Please begin the title of the thread with your name for easy identification - e.g. [Jun D] Sum Phonies! 8D
❥ To officially make your planned Custom a Phony Potentiate for all Customs events [including RLC] please fill out the form provided above in your Quest thread for each Custom, and label your thread title with [QC NEEDED!] for vetting
❥ Fireflight, our QC Officer, will [eventually] get round to your thread (ONLY if it is marked [QC NEEDED!]) and one of the scenarios outlined above will occur
❥ If you'd like to get a Quest done without posting the details online (e.g. a secret gift for a friend), you may inquire privately about it for RL$ and keep the information to emails only
❥ Certain quests may have to be rejected due to potential release in future events, mostly characters (especially prominent ones) from the core franchise that are meant to be kept as "themselves" (e.g. G4 Twilight Sparkle, G1 Majesty. etc.), so consider refraining from questing actual My Little Ponies! There probably are many that we aren't eyeing up, though, so you could try your luck if you really want to!
❥ As for cosplay characters - we don't absolutely have the confidence that we'll be able to interpret them differently from one Phony to another, but we're tentatively allowing multiples of the same cosplay character, with the caveat that each must vary from the others in some significant way. This currently releases cosplay characters from the "might be rejected due to potential release in future events" clause.
❥ We reserve the right to veto any Quests that we find inappropriate, or that we're unable to do for whatever reason - but generally that's for extreme cases, and it can usually be worked out through QC!

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MIGHT HAVE NOTICED WE HAVEN'T MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT ALICORNS. Alicorns are not eligible for custom events, and we used to actively discourage Alicorn quests, due to their association with rarity and royalty, and our desire to approximate FiM's pony demographics. However, our discouragement did not discourage that many, and you might have noticed Alicorns still exist. We had quoted prices that were much higher than usual to the first RLC Alicorn seeker, and to our amazement the quote was accepted, and so as to respect that sacrifice, custom Alicorns were restricted to RL$ only, and remain so as of now. But seriously, unless you really really REALLY want an Alicorn, might we interest you in the hornless or wingless varieties of Phonies instead? 8D;;

. COMMON QUEST TOPICS .

:: IC Phony History
❥ Unfortunately, we are NOT EQUESTRIA! So your Phony does not and cannot live in parts of Equestria. :c
❥ We are Phonyland, a theme park filled with manufactured bio-organic nanotechnology plastic pony toys which become Phonies! c:
❥ Your 1st Gen Phonies (as Quests are) are not born into Phony families and sadly do not have ancestry!
- Your Phony is made in a Factory, and is IC'y purchased by you as a plastic toy in a Blisterpack (do not open)!
- Phonies are made to order, and so all special traits - whether considered desirable or defects - in Quested Phonies are requested by you and not naturally occuring
❥ If you'd really like to play a Phony who believes they have an ancestry, etc., the best we can do is implant fake memories - but please keep all the above in mind!

:: COMMONLY-REQUESTED NON-NORMATIVE TRAITS (i.e. yes these are non-normative c;)
❥ ANY and ALL Phonywear & accessories (anything not part of the Phony - including dirt smudges, etc.)
❥ Brush 'N' Grow: any section of mane past knee/tail past hoof is considered BnG, to varying extents
❥ Additional streak colours in hair; extra colours introduced into hair via other patterns than streaks (e.g. dip-dye)
- More than two streak colours for Earth, Uni, Pegi; more than one hair streak for Mer; any hair streaks for Flutter and Carousel
(This includes gradient in hair, of which the two shades must be close to each other, and should ideally only be for unstreaked hair, and ideally never for hairstreaks.)
❥ Twice-as-Fancy: technically, any non-main-Cutie Mark marking is considered TaF by Phonyland standards, including real-life horse markings. Some TaF is based on the Cutie Mark/is considered the Cutie Mark (i.e. like the G1 TaFs) TaF markings will not appear in pre-Cutie Mark stages. The only normative non-main-Cutie Mark marking not considered TaF are freckles in Applejack's specific triangle pattern.
❥ Twinkle-eye; sclera; gradient eyes; non-black pupils

:: REGARDING SIMILAR QUESTS AND ROLES
Due to the fairly basic nature of My Little Phony, names and concepts may end up similar or repeated in various quests! Please note that quest Phony names cannot be reserved, nor can concepts, as quests are not guaranteed to become actual Phonies. People are bound to think of common nouns and phrases for names and concepts (e.g. food-based Phonies), and/or character tropes (eg. songbirds), and/or inspirational objects (eg. Jewel ponies) without having seen others' quest threads, and as such we will not police such quest similarities. If your quest has similarities to an existing Phony or a prominent pre-existing quest, we may inform you of it, but we will only request changes in extreme cases.

We do take it in good faith that similar quests with common nouns/tropes/etc are not copied off another's quest/Phony, so please refrain from doing so!

:: A NOTE ON WHITE/WHITE AND BLACK/BLACK PHONIES
We at Phonyland try to vary the colour combinations on Phonies so as to avoid unrelated Phonies looking like [strike]knock-offs[/strike] accidental relatives. While most colour combinations allow for judicial hue adjustment  to avoid the above, this is extremely difficult for Phonies with white bodies and fully white hair, and Phonies with black bodies and fully black hair! You are certainly allowed to quest for them, but do understand that there might be unavoidable similarities and shared shades. Do consider: even just a single coloured hairstreak could really help to differentiate your Phony! ; )
