It was a slow week at Lucky Egg's animal shelter. Most of her animal friends had been adopted out, which was a blessing but she felt kind of lonely as she walked the quiet halls. She sighed and got to some chores. After some cleaning and some much needed book keeping, the young phony gave a yawn and stretch. Her head felt a little cloudy and thought that a break would do her some good. "Hmm... I need some sun. Let's whip up a little something for the birds." Rummaging through some cabinets, she was able to find some mixed seeds that would be perfect for wild birds.

As she stepped outside, she was greeted with a big beautiful sun and Benedict. The little brown bird was never too far from the animal shelter. Not a resident but a visitor. "Hello, Bennie!~ I brought a snack for you and your friends.~" The phony said cheerfully as she began to toss some seeds in the nearby grass. Lucky finally settled and took a spot in the shady grass under a big oak tree. Much more content being outside then indoors doing paperwork.

A shadow circled wildly overhead. Attracted by the offering of seed, Warbeak, bravest and wildest queen of all the birds (according to her), dove in with a battle squawk. She descended and landed with a hop in the grass, spreading her wings protectively over the seed and staring at Benedict in challenge.

"Enough of that," a voice called, sounding exasperated. "You have plenty of food. Stop bullying other birds over seed."

Warbeak puffed out her feathers and hopped angrily on the spot.

Mossflower had changed her direction to reach the oak and she strode those last few steps before coming to a halt under the nice cool shade. She was out on a personal errand today, visiting the local animal shelter in hopes of introducing herself and had attempted to tame her hair and put in some flowers, a change from the usual sticks and leaves that seemed to get caught there.

Her brown satchel was ever present on her shoulder and old blankets were draped across her back.

"Hello there!" She smiled at the other Phony, hoping they weren't ruining her peace and quiet too much. "Sorry for the intrusion."

Lucky Egg's pursed her lips trying to contain her laughter as a new bird began to war dance over the food. She hadn't met this little one before but they displayed a big personality. Benedict in a slight panicked hopped away and flittered on to the top of Lucky's head. "Come on now. Don't turn down the chance to make a new friend, lil guy." The winterwing stifled her laughter and composed herself. Then threw out a bit more seeds to make sure everyone was happy before dusting off her hooves.

She looked up finally catching sight of a new phony. Lucky smiled and gave a wave. Then decided to meet her halfway. "Hello there. My name is Lucky Egg and the little fellow on my head is my pal Benedict. I take it you know this adorable ruffian?" She said looking back to the angry puff.

Warbeak was busy stuffing seed into her mouth but as Lucky Egg approached Mossflower, the small bird hopped her way over between them and squawked angrily, apparently deciding protecting Mossflower was more important than seed.

While touched by the gesture, Mossflower casually but gently pushed the birdy aside with her hoof eliciting an offended twitter. "Go back to the seed, you little terror," she laughed. "It's nice to meet you, Lucky Egg, and you too, Benedict. My name is Mossflower."

She smiled. The Flutter seemed lovely and it was always fun to chat with another animal lover.

"I do indeed. This is Warbeak. I found her with a broken wing a couple of years back, probably from getting into constant fights. I helped get her back into perfect health but we both got too attached to part ways."

Lucky Egg feigned fear taking a step back from the war dancing birb before her.

"Pardon me! I see you are well guarded. I will be sure to keep my distance." The flutter gave a bright cheeky smile. "Oh wow. That is remarkable. It's beautiful to see a bond like that.~ Benedict here is a wild bird. He appreciates food but prefers the outdoors than being cooped up with me. But he's still my sweetie." Benedict gave two little love pecks to the top of her head.

"Well Mossflower and Warbeak, it is so nice to meet you two. Thanks for visiting my little sanctuary. I run the shelter. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Warbeak was clearly pleased by Lucky Egg's response and now that the Flutter knew to be afraid Mossflower didn't need to be watched so closely. Her chest feathers puffing out, the little bird hopped on past and back towards the seed, where she violently pecked at her meal.

Mossflower looked after the bird fondly and gave a small shake of her head. Silly thing. Then her attention was back on the Flutter and the other little bird with his loving pecks. How cute! "I think that's the ideal way. Birds need the freedom to come and go but I think it's wonderful when they have somewhere safe if they need it."

Her eyes widened slightly as Lucky Egg revealed herself as the owner of the sanctuary. "That's wonderful!" She exclaimed. "I came to introduce myself and offer my help." She smiled warmly and then turned slightly to show off the old blankets. "In my experience, there's never enough blankets to go around for animals that arrive."

She was excited but trying not to get ahead of herself. It was always a joy to meet a like-minded spirit and Mossflower wanted to offer as much help as she could without being too overwhelming.

Lucky's heart practically skipped a beat when she heard that Mossflower was here to offer a helping hoof to the shelter. Her wings began to beat a faster and began to give a small hummingbird like noise. She floated just off the ground now and gave a little over excited twirl.

"Oh Mossflower! You are too kind. I'm sure the blankets will be well received. I would offer to take the blankets from your back but I dare not cross your mighty guardian." The phony gave a playful smile. "Perhaps I can show you around, if you have the time..." She titled her head slightly, and Benedict began to roll off before she realigned herself. "Oops, Sorry buddy. Forgot you were up there." He responded with an angry squeak.

Well that was the cutest thing she had ever seen in her life and Mossflower had seen a lot of cute things. She couldn't help but smile in utter delight.

"That would be lovely. Thank you." She shifted a bit to acknowledge the blankets. "Yes, maybe I'll carry them in for now. Just in case."  Mossflower chuckled as poor Benedict nearly took a tumble. Little angry bird faces were the best.

"Lead the way, Lucky. I'm excited to see everything."
