It wasn't an epiphany like he had expected it would be. There were no fireworks, no lightbulbs, no 'a-ha's.

It was as normal of a realization as noticing a bird in a tree.

Butter Beer had settled on the idea of starting up a drink business awhile ago, but he was caught up in what kind of beverage he was really trying to sell. He had experimented with flavored milks (which went over pretty well with everyone he tried them out on), messed with the soda stream to see what kinds of fizzy beverages he could make, and he'd flavored waters with herbal and fruit essences, but they were all just... Lacking the punch that he wanted to see in his patron's eyes. He wanted his drinks to refresh those who drank them and to induce a craving that couldn't be found anywhere else.

It was something that he needed to only be found in his drinks.

He had been sitting back in the kitchen of Cloud Nine's bar, mindlessly watching his aunt Banana Creme work her magic on her macarons, when his uncle Fruit Punch had come back from tending the bar. He was definitely drinking on the job again, evident by the half-full beer in his hoof. Without looking, the redhead had set the drink down in front of his nephew, making Butter Beer lift his head with interest. He had never experimented with alcoholic beverages (of course) and had never really even thought to. It was just beyond his scope of imagination, like it didn't even exist for the colt. But adults loved it, didn't they? Beer was a party favorite. ...

Without a moment of thought, he grabbed the glass of cold beer in front of him and took a sip (just a sip!) to satisfy his curiosity.

Oh. Yeah. So this was it.

He had focused on the crisp, nuanced flavors that supported the bite of the alcohol. Wheaty, hoppy-- There was orange peel and a hint of cloves, some cinnamon and ginger... It smelled smooth but bit his tongue in a refreshing way. And it was missing the distinct taste of clover flowers.

Setting down the glass before anyone bothered to notice, Butter Beer slipped out of his chair and blinked, his mind clear as day when he decided that this would be his beverage. He would create the most crisp, refreshing, full of flavor beer, and it would make everyone's eyes sparkle with the brilliance of diamonds he was seeking. Well. That was that, then. The only problem...

Now he just had to wait until he was Old Enough to put his product into everyphony's hooves.

But then, he'd rule the beer empire from the very, very top.

Butter Beer was ready.
